About Tungnath Temple
Tungnath is one of the tallest Shiva temples in India.
It is located at an altitude of 3680 meters (12073 feet).
It is part of Panch Kedar temples, which include Kedarnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar, Kalpeshwar, and Tungnath.
Forelimbs of Lord Shiva in the form of bulls are worshipped here as shivlings.
As per the holy scriptures and Historians, this temple is believed to have been constructed not less than 1000 years ago.
This temple remains closed for six months in a year due to heavy snowfall, and the region remains inaccessible.
It opens in the month of April or May and closes in the month of October or November.
On the closure of the temple, the diety of this temple is being transferred to Makkumath Temple in Makkumath village.
